Los Tarrales Reserve Guatemala

Los Tarrales Reserve was host for the 2nd Meeting of the Central American Network of Private Protected Areas, from 30 August - 1 September 2004. The workshop was organized by the Protected Areas and Environmentally Sound Products Components (PROARCA/APM) and AID. The following institutions participated:

Association of private protected areas in Guatemala
Association of private protected areas in Mexico
Network of protected areas in El Salvador
Network of private protected areas in Honduras
Network of private protected areas in Nicaragua
Network of private protected areas in Costa Rica
Network of private protected areas in Panama

The objectives of the meeting were:

to inform on the actual state of private nature reserves in each country
to identify processes for the creation of private reserves along boundaries
to coordinate development activities of the Central American network of private reserves
to establish a data base with information about private reserves in Central America
to coordinate development activities of the Central American network of private reserves

Several international declarations resulted from the meeting, targeting conservation issues to accomplish the goals of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor (information in Spanish at - CCAD - Central American Commission for Environment and Development)
